Little Fingers

One of the most rewarding things about working with young learners is getting to track and monitor their progress mastering the little things. They are so curious about the world around them, and what better way to explore that world than through the senses! In these introductory activities, students learn to manipulate the world around them using everyday materials to explore math, science, phonics, writing, art, and more!

In this simple activity, our young learners are not only encouraged to begin to recognize the letters in their names, but to use their developing fine motor skills to grasp, grab, pinch, place, and repeat! The students practice and learn the curves and contours of their names written out and as a bonus. The final product ends up being a beautiful piece of artwork personalized by design, not to mention the incredible sense of accomplishment they feel when they have completed the task of tracing their entire name! So far for this activity, we've used buttons, beads, and beans.  Next stop, pasta and natural materials!
